The Chillisauce Office Racing Challenge – with Help for Heroes
Up until now on the blog we’ve stood back, scratched our heads and cocked a wary look at those people in the world daft enough to do something so inspirational and so bonkers that it makes you proud to be a human. But there was always going to come a point when we could resist the temptation no longer, rip off our clothes and jump head first into the melee. That time has come.
On Sunday May 6th in a town called Laichingen, Germany, the Office Chair Racing World Championships will take place. This is the ‘Monaco’ of the office chair calendar, as the main street will be converted into the racing straight where hopefuls will bring their trusty steeds and send themselves careering down the track in pursuit of glory. This is a deadly serious business; chairs are expected to reach speeds of up to 30mph and if you fall off there’s just the unrelenting tarmac to greet you.
Chillisauce wants to know what high speed chair racing looks, feels and tastes like. With the world’s media watching we just have to be there, so we’re sending Rob, to pit his wits against the best office chair racers in the world. However, such a triumphant event deserves more than simply taking part…and the great thing about interns is that they’ll do anything.
Our Challenge to Rob
We have tasked Rob with the mission of taking his own office chair from here in London all the way down to the World Championships in Laichingen, nearly 1000km away. And there’s more: he cannot spend any money on his passage, relying solely on social media and his, as yet, undetermined wit. And there’s more still: we’re giving him 3 days to reach Laichingen and it’s his job to raise as much money as he can for Help4Heroes. If he’s successful we’ll offer a generous donation and give him a job, and If he goes on to win the World Championship race we will double it. If he doesn’t make it, well, May 6th is his last day at Chillisauce.
Want to Support
If you’d like to support Rob, have any thoughts on how he should get there, would like to offer him a room for the night with your favourite Aunty in Stuttgart or work as a HR expert specialising in intern abuse cases, then please do get in touch. Or maybe you’d like to race against him? If you’re a disenfranchised intern what better way to prove to world what you’re made of than a by sticking this on your CV? Anyone prepared to grab a worthwhile challenge like this by the throat can come and clean our photocopier anytime and lots of lovely employers are bound to feel the same.
If you’d like to take part in the Official Run then come to the send off on Carnaby Street at 8:00am on Thursday 3rd May. We’ll even dream up a prize for the first person to make it.
We’ll be posting updates on Rob’s preparation and progress and profiling any other racers up for the challenge on the Blog and our Facebook page. If you’d like to get involved in any way then either post below, contact me on twitter @flossysimpson or send me an email: email@example.com
If you’d like to contact Rob personally to give him some advice either legal or practical than you can follow him here @Dawsongoodey88
