Dominic Roberts’ Olympic Mont Blanc effort
He’s done it. On the day that Britain unleashes the Olympics to the world we already have a bona fide champion in our midst, Dominic Roberts, who at 18 years old has just reached the summit of Mont Blanc.
Football Sized Rocks
Word came through on the Chillisauce Blog Telex in the early hours of this morning that Dom and his party had reached the summit at 10:30am on Wednesday morning after a bit of a hairy climb. They began their ascent the day before, leaving at 10am and reaching the stopover point of the Gouter Hut at 6pm that evening. Things had been interesting that first day as they crossed the Grand Couloir, an area where snow holds some of the rocks in place. As the snow melts it can give rise to a boulder shower and hearing shouts above Dom and his dad hugged the rock as football sized rocks whizzed past their heads.
Thank the Dad
They left the Gouter Hut at 2:30am and eight hours later reached the summit. Dom is obviously pretty chuffed with the whole thing, ‘A long few days but amazing! Big thanks to my dad and Berwyn for getting me to the summit!’ He’s not the first, the youngest or the quickest but he’s something more important than that, he’s one of ours. A Chillisauce blog reader, leading a life less ordinary.
